Apr. 4th, 2005 10:46 amI have a bone to pick. I've never been much of an up in your face feminist; I feel that if it needs to be said the person that one has to say it to doesn't deserve one's time. So I keep my mouth shut most of the time. Yes, certain people made certain choices and allowed themselves to be influenced for the worst. That does not give me nor anyone else the right to judge them and call them names. Why should there be such a double standard? Why does one human being deserve a degrading nickname over another simply based on gender? The ferocity with which I sometimes hear such name calling frightens me. What has this person done to deserve your judgement call? Why? Why do you feel the need to validate your opinion by expressing it in such a nasty and violent manner? Is it so that all the other people who agree with your opinion can feel validated too in this double standard they continue to uphold?
I am not a femi-nazi and I abhor the term itself. I abhor being up in people's faces about such issues. But this is a fine line that is being crossed, and I have drawn it.
